One of the largest beech trees in the city. It is a Castanopsis sieboldii of the Fagaceae family and is a designated natural monument. It was planted at the former residence of the Hosokawa family of the Kumamoto domain, and survives today, having overcome war damage and urban development. Trunk circumference 8.1 meters, height 10 meters.
