Takanawa Konjaku Monogatari
Learning the past and present of Takanawa areaDIGITAL HISTORY of TAKANAWA
At Takanawa Shrine, which faces the old Tokaido road (Dai-ichi Keihin), if you pass through the torii gate and up the steep stone stairs a quiet grounds awaits, which while not large are well-maintained (at the New Year and similar times, it bustles with people from the neighborhood). Looking back, nowadays it is a cityscape filled with buildings as far as you can see, but it’s one of those places where you are reminded that long ago, the water’s edge would have been close by and you would have had a sweeping view of the ocean.
