This is a photo from when I was cute, taken with my mother during year-end mochi pounding. I feel like it was still an era when wearing traditional Japanese attire was normal. Because my father was a carpenter, we continued using a wooden mortar, repairing it repeatedly. We still pound mochi every year with a "pettan pettan" sound.
