The Mita Aqueduct was created by diverting water from the Tamagawa Aqueduct in the 4th year of Kan'ei (1664) to meet the water demand in the Edo city area. Initially used as drinking water, it was later used for agricultural purposes, but was abolished in 1974 due to declining usage.
